Rupert Maas, 6 Duke Street, St. James’s, London, SW1Y 6BN, Maas Gallery – Private View – ‘Rupert’s favourite pictures’

We are really lucky to have the opportunity to attend a Private View at Antiques Road Show Art expert Rupert Maas’s Gallery in St. James’s.

Rupert has kindly agreed to welcome us to his Gallery in what promises to be a really fun and interesting evening.

Brought up in the Art world Rupert followed his Father Jeremy, into the Family business. Jeremy started the Maas Gallery in 1960 and Rupert joined him twenty-three years later.

He has been a member of the Antiques Road Show team since 1997 and will not doubt have some stories to tell us!

In his spare time he enjoys sailing and in 1983 sailed the Atlantic before joining the Maas gallery which now deals in Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite, Romantic and Modern British paintings, watercolours, drawings, reproductive engravings and sculpture.

A well-known character in the London arts scene he co-owns and runs The Watercolours and Drawings Fair, writes for the art press and lectures on art. He is frequently called upon to provide independent valuations for museums and collections.

He is known for his witticisms, one of his best known and quoted quips pertains to vetting an artwork’s authenticity by bearing in mind that “Everything but the naked picture is capable of lying!”
